Understanding the USMC PFT Components
The USMC PFT assesses a Marine’s overall physical conditioning across three core exercises:
- Crunches: Measures muscular endurance in the abdominal region. Marines aim for the maximum number of crunches in two minutes.
- Pull-ups / Push-ups:
- Male Marines perform dead-hang pull-ups, testing upper body and back strength.
- Female Marines perform push-ups, demonstrating upper body strength and endurance.
- 3-Mile Run: Evaluates cardiovascular endurance and stamina, requiring Marines to complete the distance in the fastest possible time.
Each event is scored individually, and these scores are combined to give a total PFT score, which then determines your PFT classification.
